Wednesday Evening  Buoy Race

Medium Distance Pursuit Race

A fun short distance race. This is a pursuit race with variable start times based on handicap. The theory is that with variable start times most boats will reach the finish at the same time, and it does make it easier to tell if you are ahead or behind since the handicap was set at the start time, not based on time sailing. As the name implies there are 4 marks with the same start/finish line. You can go in any direction and round marks in any order. Practically, based on wind and currents you either go clockwise or counterclockwise, but each boat decides so while racing some boats are going in one direction and others in the other. It does get interesting at the finish as most of the feet converge. Course is typically Meadow Point then over to Jefferson Head south of Kingston down to Skiff Point off Bainbridge Island then back to start/finish. Our start is typically at 11:34 AM and finish anywhere from 1 to 3 PM.
